Edward “Ed” Thayer Doten of Duxbury, MA passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2026 at the age of 78.
Ed was born April 2, 1948, to the late Arthur and Louise (Thayer) Doten. After graduating from Dedham High School, Ed proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Ed worked as a commercial airline mechanic for nearly 20 years before opening his own auto repair shop.
A gifted mechanic with an unmatched talent for working with his hands, Ed could fix almost anything that came his way. He found great joy in restoring and maintaining machines, especially Harley-Davidson motorcycles and antique automobiles.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Driscoll and her husband, Timothy Driscoll, and their daughter, Catherine; his son, Michael Doten and his wife, Lena, and their children, Lucy, Theodore, and Samuel; and his two younger brothers, Stephen Doten and James Doten. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Ed will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 11:15 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a veterans' organization or charity of your choice in his memory.
