Edward L. "Butch" Fonseca, Jr., of Marshfield, passed away suddenly on February 8, 2021 at the age of 78. He leaves his children Edward L. Fonseca, III of Onset and Denise M. Fonseca of Maryland, a grandson, Anthony Fonseca, a brother, Ben Silva, and former wife Diane M. Fonseca. Son of the late Edward L. and Mary G. (Gracia) Fonseca, he is also predeceased by a brother, Jose Ceasar.
From Legendary Home Town Sports hero, to Honorable Post Master, to Local Town Mayor, Edward L. Fonseca Jr left an indelible impression on anyone and everyone he encountered. He grew up in Marshfield and graduated from Marshfield High where his sports abilities led him to record breaking fame as a 3 star athlete. Presented with an opportunity to play pro ball in Ohio in 1956, he opted instead to stay close to his family and home town roots. Later he married and started a family, served in the Air Force as a medic, in Vietnam, then returned home to start his career with the US Postal Service. With a strong work ethic, he worked his way up to Honorable Postmaster of Marshfield.
In 2009 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Basketball.
From Sports, Military, Post Master, family man, or friend and any other shoes he wore, he left a HUGE foot PRINT. He'll be remembered by all as a complicated man, tough exterior, mellow interior with a good heart and that Big Smile. But his crowning glory was always his 2 children, his son Edward the 3 rd , his daughter Denise, and his grandson Anthony. In the end, he showed us that words don't define the man, deeds do. Eddie always strived to "do the right thing".
GO IN PEACE DAD!
