It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Edward "Ed" Holland, on May 31,2024 at the age of 88, surrounded by family. Born in Scituate, he was the cherished son of the late Joseph and Adelide (Ferriera) Holland. Ed was predeceased by his beloved siblings Bud, Johnny, Richard, and Shirley.
Ed was the treasured husband of the late Marion Holland, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. They were blessed with two daughters, the late Thelma "TJ" (Judge) and the late Brenda (Earle). A doting grandfather to Frank Abadie (Melissa), Rachael Judge (Charlie), the late Thomas Judge Jr., and Tyler Judge (Kelsea). He took great pride in his role as a great-grandfather to Zachary, Kiera, Madison, the late Ella, Camilla, Thomas, and Harlow.
Fortunate to find love a second time, Ed was later married to the late Sue (Briere) Holland, whose memory and family remain a testament to their shared love.
He shared special bond with his two sons-in -law, Thomas Judge and the late George Earle, and affectionately known as "Unki" to his numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed proudly served in the 94th Recon in the Army Reserves. After his military service, Ed pursued a successful career as a carpenter, owning his own business. He built numerous homes on the South Shore and many greenhouses across New England. He also worked as the groundskeeper at Fort Pike in Louisiana before returning to Massachusetts, where he dedicated 30 years as a maintenance man at Winslow Village until he was forced into retirement. A committed member of the American Legion Post 88, Ed also contributed his time and heart as a board member of Marshfield Community Christmas.
A man of simple pleasures, Ed found peace in the solitude of his garden, planting flowers and vegetables that he shared with all. He found great joy in the laughter and play of his great-grandchildren and would occasionally stop at the Marshfield VFW, where he enjoyed a cold Budweiser in good company. He will be deeply missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery with a graveside service on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
