Obituary

Edward (Ed) Norton passed away suddenly on April 7th, 2024 at the age of 62.

Born in Quincy, Ed was the son of the late Kenneth R. Norton and Margaret June Norton, and the brother of Kenneth, Marcia, Peter and David. He grew up in Braintree and while working for The Patriot Ledger, he met his life partner Cheryl Norton. Together, they lived in Marshfield, where Ed grew to love the way of life in a beach community. Together, they adopted a beautiful daughter Molly, and a kindhearted son Joseph who completed the Norton family.

Ed began his working career at The Patriot Ledger as a district manager and from there, moved onto St. Elizabeth's Hospital as the Engineering Dispatcher. Moving on from there, Ed began a job at IUOE Local 877 Operating Engineers working as a business agent. As his career continued, he moved onto working at Martinson Elementary in Marshfield as the head custodian.

Ed always had a passion for making people laugh, having the ability to walk into a room and bring a smile to everyone's face. During his time as a father, Ed made sure his two children were educated on his love for sports while making sure to never miss a game or tell the ref "He's blind". Ed always loved his family trips where he was sure to keep everyone's bellies full and smiles on their faces. He might have been Irish, but he cooked like an old Italian. His love for animals was unconditional and he showed this by making sure his furry friends were fat and happy.

Ed loved his work at Martinson Elementary as "top mop", making sure the students were his number one priority. His love for children in his family and out, is what people will remember Ed best for. Whether it was making sure the students had a safe and clean place to learn, or buying his children the toys they desperately wanted, he made sure no child was left behind.

Ed was a man who was reliable, hardworking, and friends with everyone. He made sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable through laughter and his generosity. He was a man who loved to surround himself with his friends, family, and four legged friends. He loved Marshfield and was able to make a difference in everyone's lives who knew him.

Ed left the world too soon but left it better than how he came into it. He was loved by his family, friends, and community. He truly will be missed, but we all know that he will be watching over us all making sure our hearts are full of love and our bellies never shrink.
