Obituary

Elinor M. (Stiles) Bailey of Duxbury passed away on December 19, 2025, just one day before her 94th birthday. She was the beloved wife of 72 years to George J. Bailey; loving mother of Victoria Bailey, George Bailey and his wife, Carla, and the late Jeffrey Stiles Bailey; cherished grandmother of Andrew Jeffrey Bailey, Bradford David Bailey, Gregory Jeffrey Bailey and great-grandchildren Naomi, Lucas, and Lina; and dear sister of the late Joanne Stiles Eastman Sohrweide, the late Milton Stiles, and the late Sally Jean Stiles.

Elinor was born in a mystical time of Christmas. This became close to her heart and a compass which gave her inner strength. At the loss of her mother when she was 5 years old, she had to endure unfavorable changes. Her fate changed when she met 19-year-old George Bailey at a bus stop. On their first date, new beginnings for them, started with a drive together. They talked endlessly forgetting time and they knew then that this must be the start of our lifelong adventure and a wonderful life.

Their family started with Scotties at first, then three children provided them with great joy and love. When she moved to Duxbury her life changed even more. She came into her own. She was a thoughtful, caring, humble person and quite mischievous. She coupled with friends who played sports with her, but they mostly partied. She particularly liked sailing. Elinor had a great sense of humor coming out with some memorable lines.

They loved traveling, especially with their kids, going to England and Scotland twice, skiing in Switzerland, Canadian Rockies and Mexico. Our kids played with other children with such delight. Elinor and George later traveled to all seven continents with Elinor saying "let's go to Antarctica" which ended up a spiritual adventure.

They turned into snowbirds for 20 years living at Wilderness Country Club in Naples, where they made so many new lifelong friends. Each year, back in the car they detoured on the way back to Duxbury: California, Idaho, Canada presidential libraries-all the states except Alaska.

Elinor suffered dementia for many years with dignity and grace.

All that she would want is for you to be happy, enjoy life, and she would say "Thank you."
