Elizabeth E. (McIntyre) McKenna, of Marshfield, passed away on April 21, 2017 at the age of 96. Bette was married to the love of her life, the late Daniel F. McKenna, for 55 years. She leaves behind her son Michael B. McKenna and his partner Stephen Lau of California, daughter Elizabeth A. Flaherty and her husband Stephen of Marshfield, son Daniel P. McKenna and his wife Tracy of Marshfield, and her brother William 'Bruce' Gutelius of New York. She also leaves her grandsons, Adam S. Flaherty and his wife Rebekah of Halifax and Daniel J. McKenna of Marshfield, along with her great-grand children Catherine Rose and Ronan Joshua.

Bette was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada in 1921. Moving at a young age, she spent some of her childhood in New York City, finally settling in Boston in her teens. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Brookline in 1938. In 1940 she and Dan were married and soon after began their family. With a little one at home and still quite young herself, she held down the fort while Dan served in the Navy in World War 2. She kept most of their wartime letters and they are wonderful to read.

The family settled in Brighton where Bette was active in her church and cultivated many, many lifelong friendships. She began working at Polaroid in the mid 1960's, where she worked her way up from working on the production line to eventually becoming the administrative assistant to the head of security of the company. In 1982 she and Dan, having summered in Marshfield for many years, decided to retire there.

Bette was a caring and loving woman. She cared for her mother and her husband at the end of their lives. She was always only a phone call away for anyone that needed anything. She loved to read and do needlepoint. She was always up for a good time and enjoyed the theater, travel, the beach and time spent with family and friends. Her special laugh will be remembered by all who love her.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann by the Sea Church, 591 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
