Obituary

SAUGUS – Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann" (Mayo) Melanchook, 67, died peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Nicholas V. Melanchook of Saugus, and her son Nicholas W. Melanchook and his wife Ashley (McAnespie) Melanchook of Marshfield, as well as many family members, cousins, and close friends.

She was born in Gatesville, Texas on December 29, 1953, a daughter of the late Eleanor (Macarthur) (Mayo) (Anniballi) Anderson and Edson Hobart Mayo. She was raised in Marshfield and graduated Valedictorian of Marshfield High School in 1971. In 1975, Elizabeth graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree from Mount Holyoke College, and while there studied abroad at the University of Saint Andrew in Scotland. In 2000, Elizabeth obtained a Master of Technical Writing from Northeastern University in Boston. Elizabeth was a brilliant mind and incredibly talented writer. She was a member of Mensa International, which is a non-profit organization for those who obtain an IQ in the top two percentile of the general population.

Betty Ann had many hobbies including quilting, baking, playing the harp, and most importantly traveling with her husband Nick. Nick and Betty Ann traveled all over the world. Some of her favorite places to travel included Bermuda, Canada, Italy, and Iceland, among many other European adventures. In her later years, she enjoyed her annual trips into Boston with her son and daughter-in-law to see the Boston Pop's Holiday Celebration at Symphony Hall and the Christmas Revels Show at Harvard's Sanders Theater.

Betty Ann was also incredibly involved in her faith. She served as a lector at her home parish and at the St. Therese Carmelite Chapel in Peabody, wrote the Prayers of the Faithful for her home parish, and served as a catechist for the RCIA, after going through the program herself. She enjoyed reading the Bible each day and praying the rosary with her husband.

She is predeceased by her mother, Eleanor (Macarthur) (Mayo) (Anniballi) Anderson, her father Edson Hobart Mayo, and her stepfather David Anniballi.
