Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Elvera (Borghetti) Gearin passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96. She was the wife of the late Paul Gearin of Marshfield.

Elvera was born on February 29, 1924 in Newton, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Teresina and Francesco Borghetti, who both immigrated from Italy. Elvera was a loving sister to Anthony Borghetti of Florida. She graduated from Newton North High School and attended both Scott Carbee Art School and Bryant Stretton Boston Secretarial School. Elvera pursued an accounting career throughout her life.

Elvera was always busy. She volunteered to read to children at Daniel Webster Elementary School, played her keyboard during events at the Marshfield Senior Center, enjoyed line dancing and having lunch with friends. Elvera loved to entertain at family and community events. She was an active member of the Red Hatters Club and Council on Aging; playing Bingo and Cribbage were her favorite activities at the Senior Center. She also enjoyed drawing and painting, creating numerous oil paintings throughout her life. When she wasn't out with friends, Vera enjoyed walking Rexhame beach and talking to all her neighbors.

She is survived by her son Michael Piwarunas and his wife Cheryl. Nana Vera loved her two granddaughters, Ann Marie Tobin (and Nicholas Stasinos) and Angela Simmons (and husband John Simmons). Nana Vera enjoyed singing nursery rhymes to her seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Bennett, and Lilly,Tobin; Chloe, Nicholas, and Alaina Stasinos; and Landon Simmons. Vera will be greatly missed by all, especially her companion and cribbage buddy, Terri Simmons. We will all miss "Nana" Vera.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 10 am, at Our Lady of the Assumption, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield, with interment in the Newton Cemetery.
