Obituary

Evelyn Keene (née Maloof), 79, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, surrounded by her family.

Born on October 28, 1946, Evelyn was one of nine children of Rita and Nicholas Maloof. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1964 and earned her nursing degree from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. She later built a long career in the Providence court system, where she led the introduction of a computer-assisted transcription system for the court's stenographers, and from which she retired.

Evelyn also found a second home at the Braintree Farmers Market, where she helped bring the Market Moolah/SNAP/EBT program to the market, making fresh, local food accessible to more families. She was a beloved fixture there, and it was a running joke in the family that Evelyn always "had a guy" for everything: meat, produce, herbs, cheese, eggs, olive oil, and more.

Evelyn had a deep love of lighthouses, butterflies, and the ocean. She delighted in adventure rides, holiday cookie baking, and ice cream, especially a "reverse dessert" with her granddaughter, Grace.

Above all, her favorite role was being a grandmother. Evelyn (aka Citu) treasured her time with Grace. She loved to cheer Grace on at her extracurricular activities, and together they enjoyed an annual trip to Maine, blueberry picking, local theater, farmers markets, lots of ice cream, and many other special moments.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Nicholas Maloof, and her brothers, Joe and Nick Maloof. She is survived by her daughter, Jen (Bill); her son, Tom (Marybeth); her granddaughter, Grace; her sisters, Rita, Mary (Will), and Margaret (Paul); her brothers, Ron (Evelyn), Ray, and David; her granddogs, Cocoa and Einstein; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Family and friends will celebrate her life at a private ceremony. Those wishing to honor her memory may send a donation in lieu of flowers to the Massachusetts Association for the Chemically Injured, Inc., P.O. Box 754, Andover, MA 01810, with "Evelyn Keene" noted on the check.
