Obituary

Forrest Murphy, of Marshfield passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, April 23, 2021.

Forrest was born the son of Emmett and Grace Murphy in Portsmouth, Virginia and grew up in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Upon graduating high school, he spent four years serving in the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. In 1962 Forrest attended Chowan Junior College in North Carolina, being elected Class President during his second year. He completed his undergraduate education at Berea College in Kentucky, receiving his BS in Business Administration and his Teaching Certificate. After graduation Forrest was an educator in the Cincinnati, Ohio public school system before beginning a nearly forty-year career in commercial insurance.

Forrest and Carolyn moved with their family to Marshfield, Massachusetts in 1970. Forrest was active in Saint Christine's Parish as a religious education instructor, a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Parish Council. He was also a coach in Marshfield's youth basketball program for several years. A high school swim team member, Forrest was happiest at the beach and he spent much time there with family and friends. He was an avid tennis player and runner and also enjoyed golf. In his later years he could be found attending as many of his six grandchildren's events and activities as possible. Forrest had an infectious smile, an easy-going personality and was cherished by all who knew him.

Forrest is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his daughter Stephanie Pijanowski and her husband Paul, and two sons Connor and Justin, his son Todd and his wife Kerry, and their four children Reilly, Cassidy, Declan and Rory, and his sisters Rose Marie Bryant and Doreen Hicks. He is predeceased by his dear brother Tommy.

Services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street (Rte. 3A) in Marshfield beginning with an hour of visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
