O'Connor, Rev. Fr. William J., fondly known to friends and congregants as "Fr. Bill" of Duxbury, formerly of Roslindale and Marshfield, passed away on February 11, 2019 at the age of 89. Beloved son of the late John P. and Francis M. (McIntyre) O'Connor; brother in-law of Nicole O'Connor of Washington, DC; brother of the late Katherine O'Connor, Francis M. O'Donnell, John T. O'Connor, and Mary E. Kerrissey. Bill took great pride in being the loving uncle to Marc O'Connor of Washington, DC, Kathleen Boccuzzi and her husband Steve of West Roxbury, Christopher Kerrissey of Milford, NH, Carol Kerrissey of Beverly, MA, Patty O'Donnell of Harwich, MA, Nancy O'Donnell of Hingham, MA, and several great nieces and nephews and great-grand nephews and nieces.
Fr. O'Connor was a 1945 graduate of Boston English High School and Boston College in 1951. Upon graduation from St. John's Seminary in 1958, he began his faithful journey at Sacred Heart Church in Lexington, where he served for 6 years, then went on to serve one year at Saint Benedict Church in Somerville, 5 years at Saint Michael Church in Hudson, 13 years at Saint Agatha Church in Milton, 3 years at Saint Therese Church in West Roxbury, and 13 years at Saint Jeremiah Church in Framingham. As a Senior Priest, Fr. O'Connor assisted for 4 years at Saint Francis Cabrini in Scituate, Saint Ann by the Sea Parish in Marshfield, and Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Green Harbor for 10 years.
Fr. Bill dedicated much time and energy to the food pantry, and the Norwell VNA and Hospice. He was a proud member of the Campus of Caring's Board of Directors, who were instrumental in bringing the Pat Roche Hospice Home to Hingham. He was also very fond of playing golf, skiing, hockey, which he played in High School, all Boston College sports, and his time spent with the Tuesday group, which he often hosted in Duxbury.
Rev. Fr. William J. O'Connor will lie in repose on Monday, February 18, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield for relatives and friends to pay their respects. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 19 with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be on Wednesday, February 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline.
