Francis D. Flanagan, Jr. ( Bud ) April 11, 1934 to September 18, 2014. Bud Flanagan 80, of Ocala, Florida died on Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the morning at Florida Medical Center under hospice care in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after more than 3 months of serious illnesses. He leaves a large family of 4 children and 2 step children and their families. Brenda Barillot, Dennis Flanagan, and Peter Flanagan all of Weymouth and Christopher Flanagan of Sandwich. The 2 step children are Debi Zargon of Davie, Florida and Christopher Cornier of West Palm Beach, Florida. Bud has 4 siblings. Gerald Flanagan of Kingston, Leo Flanagan of Hingham, Patricia Galvin of Marshfield and Robert Flanagan of Leesburg, Virginia. All with large families. Bud will now be joining his wife, Harriet Flanagan, his sister, Barbara Johnson and his parents, Francis and Alice Flanagan. Bud was born in Arlington, MA and grew up in Lexington, MA and Humarock, MA. During the summers Bud and his brothers ran the Frosty Treat Ice Cream truck business in the surrounding beaches of Humarock. After High School he enlisted in the Air Force. He was in for almost 9 years. He fell in love with flying. He became a flight engineer for Japan Airlines and for Tower Airlines. He was absolutely in love with flying and airplanes. Also, he loved the warm weather of Florida. Bud will be buried at Bourne National Veterans' Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts. It will be a private ceremony for family only. Burial is at 11:15AM on Tuesday, 9/23/2014 with full military honors and cemetery service. Funeral arrangements were handled by MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield, MA. In lieu of flowers or donations, please say a Hail Mary (his favorite) or a prayer of your choice for all of our veterans that they will be treated fairly and timely at all VA Hospitals.
