It is with profound sadness that the family of Francis A. "Bussie" Salvador, age 89, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, July 31st.
The son of Frank J. Salvador and Helen (Casey) Salvador, Bussie grew up in his beloved Cohasset alongside his twin siblings, Helen "Sissie" McGinn and Robert Salvador, both of whom preceded him in death.
After graduating from Cohasset High School, Bussie enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, serving his country admirably as an aircraft electrical mechanic. During his time in the USAF, he received both The National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Post honorable discharge, he worked for the Cohasset Post Office for over 30 years, helping countless residents along the way.
He and his wife Patsy raised their family in Marshfield, where the neighbors on Marshview Drive became more like family. An enthusiastic traveler, Bussie and Pat took their kids on hundreds of road trips, and Bussie never met a travel pamphlet, map, or roadside historical sign post that he didn't love and/or want to investigate. Traveling with Bussie was always about the journey, not just reaching the destination. Bussie and Patsy enjoyed many wonderful winters in Jupiter, Florida where they became fast friends with other snowbirds from around the country. Quality family time was spent at their cottage in Dennis, where friends and family have gathered to spend time together for generations. Bussie also loved his Boston sports teams, and the Red Sox have certainly lost their #1 fan.
His family and friends will remember him as an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and his optimism and sunny personality ensured that he never met a stranger.
Bussie is survived by his beautiful wife of 56 years, Patsy (White) Salvador, his daughter Audrey O'Brien and her husband Scott of Norton, MA, his daughter Andrea McNamara and her husband Jim of Plymouth, MA and his daughter Debra Logan and her husband Casey of Plymouth, MA, as well as his adored grandchildren Maura and William O'Brien, Lauren, Sean and Carter McNamara, Derek and Jason Logan, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield on Thursday, August 11th from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday, August 12th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Ann By The Sea Catholic Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield with internment immediately following in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the team at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center for their great care and compassion towards Bussie for many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Fisher House, which provides a home away from home for military families to stay free of charge while a loved one is receiving inpatient care at a VA hospital. By mail to Fisher House Boston, P.O. Box 230, So. Walpole, MA 02071 or online at: https://fisherhouseboston.org/
