Frederick T. Nielsen born December 11, 1931 in Boston, died August 23 at the age of 90. He was raised in Roslindale and spent summers in Marshfield with his family. Fred studied botany but ultimately became a counselor at the VA in Brockton.

Fred touched a lot of lives and helped many souls getting their lives back through sobriety. Fred was sober for over 50 years and was so proud of that accomplishment. He was especially proud of his Naval Service to his country. He served on the USS Salem with his older brother Rick. Fred had many tales to tell about those days in the Navy.

In his retirement years he enjoyed KFC on the Canal next to the railroad bridge, his time at the Bourne VFW and St. Peter's on Wednesday night in Buzzards Bay. If you were ever at an event with Fred and you didn't know him when you got there, you could bet you knew him before you left. Fred had a caring personality and enjoyed meeting new people, especially if they were on the road to recovery. Fred also loved his dogs and enjoyed long walks on the cranberry bogs and trips to Maine with them. Fred was the last of his family and is survived by many nieces, nephews and his sister in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 beginning with a wake from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a funeral procession to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the VFW Aptuxcet Post 5988, by mail to 180 Shore Road, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532-4118.
