Podbelski, Frederick W. 73 of Marshfield, passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2014. Fred was the son of Frederick and Stephanie (Moryl) Podbelski of Hardwick, MA . Fred attended school in Gilbertville and Westfield State College where he was a 3-sport athlete, playing soccer, baseball and basketball throughout his career. Fred retired from a 32 year career teaching science in 2004. Most of these years were spent as a teacher/coach at Marshfield High School. While at Marshfield High School, Fred coached the Girls Soccer Team for 20 years and led his team to a Division I State Championship in 1994. Fred leaves his wife, Deborah (Jones) Harrington-Podbelski of Marshfield , son Eric Podbelski (Amy) of Norton, MA, son Ian Podbelski of Fort Lauderdale, FL, stepdaughter Diana Scolponeti (John) of Marshfield, and stepdaughter Emily Harrington of New York City. Fred was predeceased by his stepson, James Harrington of Marshfield. Fred also leaves his sister, Maryann Vinskey (Ed) of Hardwick,MA, his brothers Walter (Ellie) Podbelski of East Greenwich, RI and Ed (Pat) Podbelski of Palmetto FL. Fred loved his family greatly and was totally enmeshed in the lives of his grandchildren, Erin and Shea Podbelski and Alden and Lucia Scolponeti. Fred was a wonderful teacher, great friend, loving husband and doting father and grandfather whose loss to friends and family is immeasurable.
A Funeral Service for Fred will be held Friday, December 19th at the North Community Church, 72 Old Main Street, Marshfield Hills at 11:00 AM.
Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield on Thursday, December 18th from 4 – 8 PM.
