Freya Allen Shoffner passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and friends, March 13 2024, after a brief battle with an unexpected illness.
After graduating from Lexington High School Freya went on to attend Mt Holyoke College. Subsequent to her 25 years as an entrepreneur, Freya attended Suffolk University Law School, where she received her JD Magna Cum Laude, Phi Delta Phi. Freya parlayed her amassed knowledge of business methodology, regulations, tax, financials, and acumen into her law career of 30 years, notably as principal attorney of her own firm, Shoffner & Associates from 2000-2024. In her holistic approach, Freya also included the family matters of her clients, building Estate Plans, complex Trusts, and engaging in litigation.
Freya never hesitated to provide direction and support to non-profit organizations. She liberally offered legal insights at speaking engagements, in person or via broadcasts, and was lecturer at Suffolk University Law School's Advanced Legal Studies Program.
Among her distinctions, Freya was admitted to the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Appeals Court (1st Circuit), the United States Tax Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court District of Massachusetts.
Freya leaves behind her beloved husband, Thomas Fitzgerald, sons Max Zayas, Darius Zayas, and Wolfgang Dawson, and their spouses Cristi Lopez, Aria Zayas, and Susanna Suh Dawson, daughter Mariya Filipova, as well as grandchildren Paloma, Santiago, Abrielle, Tucker, and Hugo, sister Kyra Ahlin, nephew Konrad Ahlin, and niece Verity Elder.
There was nothing Freya enjoyed more than to be surrounded by family and friends. Freya was our sail and rudder in rough and happy seas.
A memorial for Freya was held at First Congregational Church in Marshfield, 1981 Ocean Street, Saturday, April 13th, 1:00p. Donations in Freya's memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen foundation, online at https://www.komen.org/
