George F. Bent, Jr., of Pembroke, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born in Linden, NJ on March 28, 1925. In June of 1943, George enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He served honorably in World War II as a tail gunner in B25's in the South Pacific theatre of war and was discharged in 1946 at the end of the war. In 1950, George returned to the U.S. Air Force for one year as a waist gunner in B29's in the Korean Conflict.

George is the grandson of George Henry Bent, the last of the Bent family to be an owner of the Bent Water Cracker Factory on Pleasant Street in Milton. He is survived by his wife Florence M. (Hardy) Bent; his daughter Jennifer Bent of Brant Rock, and a son, Daniel G. Persson and his wife and two children of Virginia. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George was active in the Plymouth Camp of The Gideon's International and the American Legion, Post 143, in Pembroke.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Ret. 139) in Marshfield. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Church of the Nazarene, 136 Summer Street, Duxbury. Interment will be held on a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
