George P. Bulu, Sr., a life-long resident of Duxbury, passed away on July 9, 2018 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of over 63 years to Mary (Alves) Bulu and loving father of Georgina Bulu Robideau and her husband Nelson of Duxbury, Karen Janczewski and her husband Thomas of Carver, George Bulu, Jr., of Duxbury, and James Bulu, also of Duxbury. George leaves a sister, Mary Carr of Kingston, his 6 grandchildren Justin, Joshua, Anastassia, Heather, Brianna, and Jason, great-grandchildren Ahliana, Natalia, Raegan, Lilliana, and Hunter, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by siblings Joseph Bulu, Sr., Cecilia Lantz, Frances Gomez, and Thomas Bulu, Sr.
George attended Duxbury Schools but had to leave school early to care for his father who was injured in a railroad accident. He then became bread winner for the family farm in Duxbury. George was also a dedicated employee of the Town of Duxbury and retired after 20 years working in Duxbury schools. A loving and devoted family man, he enjoyed country music, cooking his Katchupa and Jag, flying airplanes, and going to air shows.
As a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army, George served during the Korean War, then for over 30 years in the Army Reserves as an engineer operating heavy equipment, bulldozers, trucks and cranes. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 223 in Duxbury and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. to the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
