George William Butters, Jr., Billy to all who knew him, died at home on December 16, 2022, at the age of 72 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late George & Elide (Benati) Butters, and brother of Idore 'Mac' Butters of Venice, FL, and Arthur 'A.J.' Butters of Plymouth.

Billy graduated from Plymouth Carver High School in 1968.  He co-captained the Blue Eagles Varsity football team, and lettered in football, track, baseball, and basketball.

Billy's greatest joy in life was his family.  He was the cherished husband of Elizabeth (Eldridge) Butters of Marshfield, beloved father of Tracy Dixon and Samantha Ghidoni of Plymouth and Michael Butters of Naples, FL, loving stepfather of Andrew Eldridge of Brockton and Jason Eldridge of Jamaica Plain, and treasured grandfather of Emily Dixon and Penelope Butters.

Billy retired from NSTAR Plymouth after 30 years of service as a lineman and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and traveled often with Liz to Scotland, England, Canada, Florida and Las Vegas. He was a life member of Marshfield Elks Lodge 2494 and Marshfield Memorial Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary where he and Liz spent many happy times socializing with friends and watching the games of all their beloved Boston sports teams.  He loved playing golf and when asked what his handicap was would laughingly reply 'golf'.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marshfield Elks Lodge 2494, 2022 Polar Plunge, 1321 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050, or to Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 35, 108 Dyke Road, Marshfield, MA 02050, attention Mary Welch, Treasurer.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a service at 4:30 p.m., at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Burial will be at a later date.

You all know Billy was not a suit & tie guy! The wearing of dark clothes/suits/ties are not obligatory. It's a celebration of his wonderful life, so feel free to dress in your favorite casual clothes and join us immediately following visitation at the Marshfield Lodge of Elks 2494, 1321 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050.
