Obituary

Mamet, George J., of Marshfield, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on September 18, 2018.

Born in Germany of Polish descendants, George was preceded in life by his parents Leon and Leonarda (Kornatowski) Mamet and his brother Tadeusz Mamet. He was the loving brother of Helena Slattery of Milton and sister in law Maureen Mamet of Milton.

After coming to America, George lived in the tight-knit neighborhood of the West End. From there, his family moved to Dorchester where he grew up and attended local schools. He was a graduate of South Boston High School and graduated from East Coast Aero Tech with High Honors. Afterward, George joined the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, First Class.

The love of George's life was his childhood sweetheart Maureen (Barry) whom he married in 1970 and lived with in Dorchester before moving to Marshfield. They raised two sons and lived there for 43 years. George worked for National Grid (formerly Boston Gas Co.) as a Training Specialist for 45 years. When he retired, he worked as a consultant for several utility companies. George was widely respected in the industry as a knowledgeable and reliable expert in his field.

George traveled each winter to Key West with Maureen and enjoyed the beach and warm sun. He also worked tirelessly to make his home one of comfort for all. His cooking abilities were legendary. His famous meals were enjoyed by the entire family. George loved his garden and was one of seven Marshfield residents chosen to exhibit in the 2014 Marshfield Garden Tour.

George is survived by his cherished wife of 48 years, Maureen, and two sons Mark and his wife Candita of Marshfield; Matthew and his wife Jill also of Marshfield, and his 5 adoring grandchildren Isabelle, Sophia, Joseph, Juliet and Luke along with five nieces - Adrienne, Meghan, Katelyn, Marisa and Lauren.

Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 Marshfield on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield, at 11:00 am.
