Gerald L. Pieri of Marshfield passed away on December 30, 2017 at the age of 74. Gerald was the beloved husband of Susan Pieri and loving father of Sean M. Pieri and his wife Karen of Colorado Springs, Daniel E. Pieri of Granger, Indiana, and Timothy Pieri Colligan of East Boston. Gerald leaves his brothers Robert F. Pieri, Theodore W. Pieri and his wife Lauren of Camden, Maine, Desmond J. Pieri and his wife Jules of Charlestown, and William M. Pieri and his wife Lynn of Needham and his grandchildren Reilly, Kyle, Alana, Noah, James, Levi, and Amber. He was the son of the late Ormond L. and Eileen D. (Desmond) Pieri.
Gerry was employed as a transportation consultant and, previously, served as the Assistant Secretary of Transportation, Director of Rail, under Governor Dukakis. He contributed to the formation of Conrail. He loved planning trips, especially the transportation aspects, employing as many modes of transportation as a trip would allow. He also loved sailing, cooking multi-course dinners, hosting large parties for family and friends, and doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Gerry was a regular communicant at Holy Family, Duxbury and served as a greeter, usher, and acolyte at regular and funeral masses. His steady presence and planning capabilities, in addition to his love and devotion to his family, will be greatly missed.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
