Obituary

Gerald S. Rice of Marshfield passed away on August 19, 2025. Beloved husband of the late Nancy (Gaffney) Rice, he is survived by his children: Frank Rice of Dania Beach, FL; Jody and Anthony Santa Ines of North Attleboro; Jamie Rice and Mike Mahoney of Marshfield; Lindsay Rice of Duxbury; and Jessica and J Heasley of Lunenburg. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacob, Jackson, Charlie, Kolby, and Callen. He is survived by his siblings, Mildred and her husband Don Aldrich and Richard and his wife Joanne Rice, and sister in-law Margie Jesperson of NH, and was predeceased by his brother, George Rice. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Gerald, better known to friends and family as "Jerry", was a man of generosity, love, and quiet strength. Always ready to lend a hand, he would drop anything for family, a friend, or even a stranger.

He cared for his wife Nancy with devotion until her passing from cancer 23 years ago and honored her memory every day since. Together, they built a beautiful family, and Jerry was the proud father of four daughters and one son. He was the best Dad and Grampy—patient enough to handle a lively household and strong enough to want to stay here for his children and grandchildren as long as he could. He was also instrumental in raising his youngest grandson, Callen, who carries his name with pride.

Jerry's skill as a carpenter and drywaller was known by all. If he wasn't showing up at your house with his tools, he was guiding you through how to do it yourself. Even during his illness, he was proud to be a union carpenter, sharing tips with staff at his rehab and passing down the values of hard work and loyalty.

A devoted Kiwanis member, Jerry poured his heart into the community—building ramps, helping at Harbor Park, volunteering at Kentucky Derby Day, organizing turkey deliveries, and most especially running the Christmas tree lot at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. He loved every second of it and was proud to earn his red jacket.

Jerry's friends stood by him through everything, a true testament to the man he was. The support of Dick Stetson and the Marshfield Kiwanis, his best friends Al Phinney, Tom Ellis, and Bob Lyons, and all his Kiwanis buddies (you know who you are) meant the world to him. His daily McDonald's coffee with Bob was a cherished ritual.

He was also a loyal Red Sox fan, and his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren's sports, always their biggest supporter on the sidelines.

Jerry was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. On any given day, if asked how he was doing, he'd smile and say, "Living the Dream." His family and friends take comfort in knowing he is now truly living that dream with his beautiful angel, Nancy.
