Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we are to announce the passing of Gwendlyn Atkinson-Lynch, otherwise more affectionately known as Wendy to those closer to her. Wendy was a beacon of love and a forever unwavering strength, and her absence leaves us all with a void that will be deeply felt by those who knew her.

Wendy lived a life rich in not only finding purpose but creating it. A gifted artist and craftswoman, the art she created was a testament to her indomitable and innovatory spirit.

While those who loved her knew that she could be almost ostentatiously stubborn at times, they also knew this stubbornness was born from a profound sense of integrity and an unwavering commitment to her principles. She was an inspiration, demonstrating a remarkable ability to stand her ground even when faced with adversity.

But her physical journey had never been an easy one. As she faced countless challenges with the body of which she did not choose for herself. Despite this, however, she refused to let them define her. She lived her life determined to experience every ounce of joy, connection, and fulfillment possible. Her soul was strong, even when the heart encasing it was not.

Wendy is survived by her two daughters Stacey DeMello and Sandra Atkinson, grandson Jasper DeMello and granddaughter Brianna Atkinson, as well as her sister Debbie Pelczarski, brothers Bruce, Reggie and Greg Brillant and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Though our hearts ache with the pain of her loss, we take solace in the knowledge that her spirit is now joined together with her predeceased son Jaysen, younger brother Benny and her parents Norma and Reginald Brillant, and will henceforth continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched from now and forever onwards.

Wendy will be laid to rest on Wednesday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if at all able, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
