Helen Gertrude (Geary) Lydeard of Marshfield passed away on October 25, 2026 just 6 weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
Helen was born and reared in Massachusetts. She worked as a financial assistant for the loan department at the Shawmut Bank in Marlboro. In 1989 Helen retired and with her former husband, Vincent V. Lydeard, they moved to South Carolina and shortly thereafter, they moved to Alabama. During this time, Helen helped raise her three beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, and Chatherine. Helen moved to Marshfield following the death of her former husband Vincent in 2005. She lived across the hallway from her beloved twin sister, Anna Dyer at Winslow Village.
Helen loved her sister, grandchildren, and her two sons, Philip Lydeard of Malden, MA. and Charles Lydeard and his wife, Rhonda Lou of Morehead, KY. Helen loved her nieces and nephews. As well as her great nieces and great nephews. Helen’s one and only beloved daughter Helen, preceded her in death in the year 2016.
Helen attended St Christine’s church along with her sister Anna, until Covid and her advanced age, made it difficult to attend church on a regular basis. Helen loved to read, watch British mysteries, and watch Columbo, as well as do sing-along with musicals that she watched. Way back in the day, Helen played the piano, loved to go dancing and was an accomplished tap dancer.
Helen remained a ‘fighter’ to the end. Along with her advanced age, she fought Alzheimer’s. She may have ‘dropped’ a word or two. However, to the end, she knew who her loved ones were and was still able to sing along and tap her feet to the movie musicals, The King and I and the Sound of Music.
Family and friends are invited to attend services on Saturday, December 5, 2026, with a wake from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
