Obituary

Helga G. (Balewski) Orlowski, 82, longtime 51-year resident of Duxbury, passed away suddenly after a brief illness at the Newfield House in Plymouth, in the comfort of her loving family on January 28, 2022. Helga was the beloved wife of the late Frank A Orlowski, and were married for 58 years when he passed in March of 2020, and daughter of the late Fritz and Gertrude Balewski of Germany. She is survived by daughter Karen Tepper and her husband Jay Salamone, of Duxbury, her sister Rita Balewski, brother Gerhard Balewski (wife Karin), and nephew Christian, all of Germany.

Helga was born in the town of Königsberg (Preußen). The former German city has been named Kaliningrad since 1946 and belongs to Russia. She was raised in Rastede Germany. Helga graduated from Municipal Business School Oldenburg Germany in 1957. She moved to the US with the love of her life Frank in 1961 when he finished his tour of duty in the USAF where they met at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. She continued working the in the accounting field and also had her own bookkeeping business. She retired in 1994.

Helga enjoyed tennis which she played until age 65, gardening, and was adept at making bespoke clothing for the family. She volunteered for a few years at the Duxbury Library, and was always seen cheering on her daughter at Duxbury High School and UMass-Amherst tennis matches. She enjoyed Duxbury beach and was always seen in her expansive backyard with one of her loyal canine constant companions. Her favorite dog was Toney who provided her with comfort and companionship for many years.

The family credits the entire team at Newfield House in Plymouth for their good care that enhanced her quality of life while she was there.

Helga was laid to rest on February 5 in a private ceremony within the Mayflower Cemetery of Duxbury.
