On May 4, 2017, Hester (Wanamaker) Bitteker, RN, 83, of New Hartford, NY and Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully at Life Care center of Plymouth, where she had resided for the past year. Beloved wife of the late William Bitteker, mother to Christopher and his wife, Fiona, and grandmother to Sarah, William and Robert. Hester is predeceased by her sister, Helen.
Born in Canastota, NY, Hester graduated as a registered nurse from the St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in Utica, NY in 1955. After working as an RN, including a stint as a charge nurse in a CCU, Hester continued to devote herself to others by volunteering at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
After her husband retired, Hester and Bill moved to Marshfield, MA, to be closer to their son and his family. They enjoyed living in the charming seaside community, making trips to the sea wall to feed the gulls, and putting a dint in the local lobster population! They were devoted parishioners of St. Ann by The Sea church, and Hester enjoyed visiting the Marshfield Fair every year. Hester was loved and will be missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann by the Sea Church, 591 Ocean Street, Marshfield. Hester will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bill, who was a Veteran, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
