Obituary

Howard A. Woodbury of Marshfield, formerly of East Kingston and Newton, NH passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021 at the age of 81, one day shy of his 82nd birthday. Beloved husband of Laura Woodbury (White). Loving father of Stephen Woodbury (wife Laura), Douglas Woodbury (wife Cheryl), Gregory Woodbury (wife Jessica), and Gretchen Brousseau (husband Gregory). Loving grandfather to Michael, Stephen, Jr., Timothy, Jordan, Elizabeth, Catherine, Ian, Alexander, Oliver, Isabel, Zachary, Paul and Justin; and 6 great grandchildren; cherished cousin to Christine Sewell (husband Bob), Lois Doherty (husband John), and the late Jimmy Woodbury (wife Dottie); cherished uncle to Karen George. (husband Keith).

Howard was raised in Arlington. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. His Northeastern education included 5 years of co-op work where he was introduced to weapons development, which became a significant part of his life. At Northeastern he entered the ROTC program, which lead to a career in the Army, completing Engineer Officers training and Fixed Wing Aviator flight school. While stationed in Vietnam (rank of Captain), he was in command of a flight group. Upon his Army discharge he entered into his career as a weapons engineer, working for Textron Systems as a Warheads Chief Engineer. His enjoyment of flying lead to a commercial instrument pilot's license.

Laura and Howard always had a strong connection with the sea, and spent many hours sailing the New England waters on their own boats. Later in his life he acquired his Captains license which enabled his second career, as a boat Captain for Charles River Boat Company.

Howard was passionate about reading, travelling, motorcycle riding and skiing. His love for skiing came later in his life, starting at the age of 57, (becoming quite proficient). A man of few words with many talents.

He lived with prostate cancer for the last 14 years of his life. He shared with many that Laura's care was the key to his longevity, along with the excellent care he was given by the Oncology department at the Jamaica Plain VA. The family wishes to thank Old Colony Hospice for their care, support and guidance.
