Jacqueline Sinnott Powell, Jackie, passed away on July 12, 2024. A lifelong resident of Marshfield, she was born on September 8, 1933, to Lawrence M. and Erma K. Sinnott. Wife of the late Harold Powell. Jackie leaves a son, Kevin, his wife Carolyn, two daughters, Karen Jordan, her husband John and Kim Wilcox, her husband Mark, all of Marshfield. Grandchildren Nathaniel Powell, Christopher Powell, Benjamin Wilcox, Nicole Moran, Peter Jordan, and Jacqueline Chisholm. Sister to the late Arlene Sinnott Garside and Stephen Sinnott.
Jackie graduated from Marshfield High School, class of 1951. In April of her senior year, there was a chemistry class explosion, injuring Jackie. On the way to Boston's Mass Eye and Ear, in the Marshfield Police Ambulance, an oil truck collided with the ambulance at Route 3A and 228, overturning the ambulance, spilling all the rinsing solution. After over a year at Mass Eye and Ear, she went to attend Perkins School for the Blind, learning to do medical records transcribing from a Doctor's Dictaphone. She went on to Morristown, New Jersey to receive a Seeing Eye Dog and training. She and the seeing eye dog commuted in a carpool from Marshfield to Copley Plaza where she and the dog would walk to her new job as a Medical Transcriber at Mass Eye and Ear. The driver of the carpool introduced Jackie to her future husband, Harold.
Jackie enjoyed cooking and baking and even baked commercially for a long period of time. She listened to Gus Saunder's recipe radio show "Boston Kitchen" every day. She was always active, walking, exercising, swimming at Duxbury Percy Walker Pool or riding her two-seated bike around town. You would not be surprised to see her and her friend Marylou McLain bike ride from Marshfield to downtown Plymouth, or to Saftler's Fabric in Whitman to purchase yarn.
Jackie was a regular attendee at Marshfield Town Meetings, she would say, "It's the best show in Town". She truly loved Marshfield and her Sinnott family heritage. She would often speak of going to her grandfather's farm on Webster Street as a child. She was also a regular at Connie Gerard's Rexhame Beach, along with all the "Beach Girls". Jackie was a very special person and had many very good friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Jackie's life at Haddad's Ocean Cafe, 291 Ocean Street in Marshfield on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, by mail to 175 North Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or online at: https://www.perkins.org/
