Obituary

James Gerald Bossi, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018, at South Shore Hospital. He was born on April 20, 1931 in East Boston, MA to James and Eleanora (Merullo) Bossi. He graduated from Medford High School in 1948, and shortly thereafter served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal from 1952 to 1954 in Garmisch, Germany. Upon his return, he married his wife Gloria (Dunne) Bossi, with whom he shared more than 62 loving years together. Jim and Gloria settled in Marshfield, MA in 1963 where they raised four children.

Jim played baseball at Medford High School and his love of the game led him to be one of the founding members of Marshfield Youth Baseball. He served on the board for MYB for many years including positions as coach and league commissioner. Jim was also well known in Marshfield as a long-time Marshfield Softball League umpire. Jim worked as an Engineer for Gillette for more than 45 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren swim in his pool, dance, and play multiple sports and was ever-present during every one of their milestones. Jim was also an avid golfer into his late seventies. Jim had an affable personality and had many loving friends both young and old, who affectionately called him Grampy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Dunne Bossi, his daughter, Karen Siegel (Bossi) and her husband Peter Siegel of Pembroke; his three sons James G. Bossi and his wife Christine (MacEachern) of Kingston, Kevin B. Bossi and his wife Karen (Trinque) of Hanover, and Mark P. Bossi and his wife Doreen (Campbell) of Duxbury. Jim was the proud grandfather of Matthew Siegel, Kayla (Siegel) Doyle and her husband Brendan; Melinda, Heather, and Craig Bossi; Thomas (TJ), Connor, and Brett Bossi; and Jack O'Toole. He was also a loving great grandfather to Adeline Rose Doyle. Jim is survived by his sisters, Joan Scozzari of Pembroke, Regina Mostone of Dracut, and Eleanor Harne of Dracut, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his sister Carrie Mutascio and his brother Anthony Bossi.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 pm at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1775 Ocean Street in Marshfield; funeral procession from the funeral home on Tuesday, August 28 at 10:00 am for a funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 am in St. Ann by the Sea Parish, 591 Ocean St. Marshfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the Couch Memorial Cemetery on Union St. in Marshfield.
