Obituary

The family of James R. Claflin, better known to most as "Jimo," acknowledges the immense sadness that the community of Scituate, as well as his loved ones, will endure with the passing of their devoted father, husband, brother, Grampie and faithful friend to many.

Jimo's greatest passion was the love for his family, but he also cherished his dear friends—you know who you are—and he was blessed and grateful for all of your time together.

Gifted with musical talent from an early age, the Scituate native was a proud member of The Features, The Fugitives, Sweet Rain and, of course, the Jimo Claflin Band. It's said there isn't anyone in Scituate, unless you're a newbie, who wasn't touched by him. He sang at weddings, funerals and lounges, only wishing to bring joy to all who heard him.

From the high school stage to the Bell Buoy, For Pete's Sake, The Satuit, The Fairgrounds, and The River Club, Jimo sang for those he cared so much about. He made Roy Orbison, Elvis and even Chris Isaac very proud each time he tried his best to honor them. We all thank him for the happiness he created with his remarkable voice.

His second career was a polar opposite from the music stage, as he joined his family legacy and honored the service of the leadership roles his grandfather, father uncles and cousins held in Boston public service for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Apprehensive but determined, Jimo accepted the opportunity to work for the Treasury Office, Abandoned Property Division. Entering asking, "Can I really do this desk and computer thing?" and retiring as Assistant Director of Operations only proves that his dedication of purpose was paramount.

James will be deeply missed by his loving wife Janet E. (Todd), his beloved daughters Jennifer C. and Glen Meader, Kristin M. Cotton, Elizabeth A. and Lawrence Bonomi and Kimberlee E. and Jason Fricker. He loved his grandchildren dearly—Robert Cotton, Elizabeth Fera, Audrey Riggs, Ava, Evan and Zackary Bonomi, and Christian and Olivia Fricker. He is survived and sadly missed by his loving sisters Margaret M. and Donald Bongarzone, Catherine E. "Trina" Basler-Stewart and Peter Stewart, Diane M. and Stanton Murphy and his brother Rick and Doreen MacDonald.

He is predeceased by his parents, James W. and Margaret (Breen) Claflin, Frederick A. MacDonald and his sister Jane Marie MacGregor.

Jimo will be missed by all and cherished by many. His gifts to his family and friends were kindness, caring, compassion and love. We hope you will hold them in your hearts forever.
