James P. Connell passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2020 with family by his side. He was 96. For many years, he was affectionately known around his hometown of Marshfield as "The Reb", having been born in Birmingham, Alabama and residing in North Carolina before meeting the love of his life and moving to Massachusetts in the mid-1940's.

James was born on April 10, 1924 to Lou Ethel (McCool) and Victor Connell. He was predeceased by two brothers, Victor Connell and Maurice Connell, and two sisters, Mildred White and Ruth Coble. James was married to his beloved wife, Phyllis (Baker), for 69 years before her death in 2014.

He is survived by five daughters; Judith Besegai (her late husband, Warren) of Plymouth, Janet Dekofski (Richard) of Orlando, FL, Linda Sheehan (Alfred) of Marshfield, Charlene Seger (Terry) of Duxbury and Patricia Merry (James) of Plymouth. He also leaves ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

James was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Marshfield VFW.

James was retired from the Massachusetts DPW. He enjoyed playing poker and KENO, as well as trips to Foxwoods with family and friends. He was an avid fan of horse racing throughout the years at the Marshfield Fair. He enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots games. He loved dining out with family and friends, as well as entertaining us with his harmonica tunes.

Visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Burial is private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the charity of your choice.
