Attorney James J. Donovan, Jr., of South Boston and Marshfield passed on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the age of 72, after a long illness. Devoted son of the late James J. and Barbara Lee Donovan. Loving brother of Daniel J. Donovan and Ruthanne of Marshfield, Attorney Robert L. Donovan of South Boston and Marshfield, Paula Murphy and John Murphy of Marshfield. Jim was a member of the Finance Committee at St. Ann's Church for 17 years. He loved long walks on Rexhame Beach and taking care of his many plants and gardens. He was the go-to person for all who needed prayers. Jim will be sorely missed by all family and friends and will be missed by his nephews Daniel and Jen of Marshfield, Matthew and Paula of Norwell, Michael and Suzanne of Tampa, FL, John and Nikki of Weymouth, Becky and Emile of NYC, Meghan and Graham of NJ, and Jacob of Maine. He will also be missed by his great-nephews and niece, Connor and Sean, Jake, Joey and Braeden, and Lucy James. James was a practicing attorney for 40 years, most recently at the firm Apostolica, Donovan & Donovan.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a graveside service and burial in the Couch Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to attend a luncheon celebration of life for Jimmy at the Fairview Inn, 133 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
