IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jim"
F. Quine, Jr.
November 11, 2020
Late in the evening of November 11th, 2020, James (Jim) F. Quine, Jr., beloved husband, father, friend, and teacher, passed away at the age of 64.
Jim was the only child of James F. Quine and Alice (Ludwig) Quine. He grew up in Natick, MA, and was faced with the early deaths of both of his parents by the time Jim was 25.
Jim spent years in the management of salespeople and retail stores, rising through the ranks of the sales world without a college degree, based on the strength of his character and powerful intellect.
In 1987, Jim married his wife, and the love of his life, Melody Selleck, after a case of what, to hear him describe it, was love at first sight. In 1993 they welcomed his only son, James Mitchell Quine.
At the age of 40, after more than two decades in business, Jim decided, with the support of his family, to return to school in order to pursue his passion for history and education. Jim graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in 2006 from the Northeastern University College of Continuing and Professional Studies, and went on to receive a master's degree in education.
Jim worked during his education as a teacher's aide at Furnace Brook Middle School in Marshfield, and after his graduation, started to work as a history teacher, and then a special education teacher, at Hingham Middle School. In special education, Jim found what he felt God had called him to do. Through his patience, kindness, sense of humor, and willingness to see the best in everyone, Jim touched hundreds of lives, not only those of his students, but also those of their parents and his fellow teachers.
Jim loved to shoot trap, read science fiction, and discuss the nature of the universe. His friends will remember his love for dogs, long walks, and quality tequila. His sense of humor, generous spirit, and gregarious attitude made him the life of any party, and he will be dearly missed by all.
In recent years Jim had faced escalating challenges to his health, culminating in a heart transplant in August of 2020. After a series complications following the procedure, Jim was brought home to hospice care on November 5th, and passed in the comfort of his home, surrounded by love, and his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Melody, his son, Mitch, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will be holding a small grave-side ceremony, and will plan for a larger memorial service when conditions will allow for a party of large-enough proportions to meet Jim's expectations. For information on the future memorial service, please provide your contact info in the virtual guestbook provided by the funeral home at macdonaldfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jim's honor to The American Heart Association, by mail to 300 5th Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451 or online at https://www.heart.org/
