Johnson, James R. 85, of Duxbury, died suddenly on August 20, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Caroll (Smith) Johnson. Father of Kelli Kirby and her husband Marcus of Alabama and Kristie Kuzy and her husband Nicholas of Alabama. Grandfather of 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Herbert Johnson and his wife Rose of Duxbury. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a long time member of NASA and worked closely with Werner Von Braun, director of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Jim was instrumental with all the manned flights to space including the Apollo missions to the moon. As a member of the Marine Corps Reserve, he retired as a Major in 1980. Jim was an avid runner and participated in many marathons. He enjoyed spending time with family and his beloved dog, Kayla.
Visiting hours will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St. in Marshfield on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A celebration of James's life will be held at the Holy Family Church 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury MA at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Interment will be in the Mayflower Cemetery Duxbury.
