James F. Joyce of Duxbury passed away on April 22, 2019 at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham. Beloved husband of the late Nina J. (Jones) Joyce and dear father of Stephen, Justin, and Daniel Joyce of Duxbury and Andrew Joyce of Weymouth, James leaves a sister Mary Casey of Bellingham, a brother Jack Joyce of Cohasset, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Theresa Butler.

Jim lived an interesting life. He grew up in South Boston and Mission Hill; attending the Mission school and the High School of Commerce; playing sports and having fun but focusing more on work. From an early age he had various jobs, learning about responsibility from his father, who at times had two and three jobs during the depression. He volunteered during the Korean War and served four years in the U.S. Air Force, with a year spent in Korea. Up to his last days you'd find him reading war books and watching the Military Channel. When asked why, he said he wanted to understand. After the war, he worked for National Airlines and American Express, traveling the world many times over.

Jim met his wife in Tulsa, OK and started a family. He brought his family back to Massachusetts, living in Quincy, Rockland and finally Duxbury. He owned Plaza Travel in Braintree for many years before retirement. Jim was devoted to his family and he was a good man.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Monday, April 29 at 9:30 a.m. to the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
