Obituary

James G. O'Donnell of Marshfield, formerly of Brookline passed away on March 4, 2025 at the age of 81.  Dedicated son of the late James O'Donnell and Frances Doherty O'Donnell of Brookline.  Beloved brother of Frances MacDonald and Thomas O'Donnell.  Beloved brother of his late sisters, Mary DeFilippo, Letitia Kelley and Lillian Carey.  He leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who loved and cherished him dearly.  Wonderful Uncle, friend and neighbor to many.

James "Jerry/Jim" grew up in Brookline and attended St Mary's Catholic School which he graduated from in 1962.  He joined the Brookline Police Department, where he worked for many years, and retired after having worked in a number of different divisions.  During his time with the department, he was elected Officer of the Year for his bravery in apprehending an armed suspect.

He loved his neighborhood in Rexhame Beach and was always willing to lend a helping hand to any of his neighbors.  If you needed something fixed, Jerry could be counted on to help you. A tinkerer and jack-of-all-trades, he had the right tool for everything.  Kind, compassionate, and giving, he was there for you if you ever needed him.

He could be seen walking the neighborhood in Rexhame with a pocket full of dog treats with every dog on the street coming over to say hello.  He also loved his kitties, having had many over the years, with his latest love being Charlotte.

Once a policeman, always a policeman; while sitting in his comfy chair (known as "the beast") and completing the latest crossword puzzle or enjoying a good western novel, he kept a close eye on the doings in the neighborhood from his perch overlooking the streets below.

Jerry will be sorely missed by so many.  Donations in his name can be made to the Marshfield Animal Shelter, by mail to P.O. Box 52, Marshfield MA 02050 or online at https://friendsofmarshfieldanimalshelter.org/
