It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Jimmy" P. Sears, a long-time resident of Duxbury, on December 21, 2022 at the age of 75. He was the beloved husband for 41 years to Maryann (Ashmont) Sears; loving father of Jaime and her husband Jimmy Resendes of Taunton and Ashley Shaw of Kingston; and cherished "Papa" to the joy of his life, grandson Crew James. Son of the late Francis and Margaret (Callahan) Sears, he was the dear brother of Jack Sears of Holbrook, Robert Sears of Framingham, Mary Alice and her husband Ronnie McArdle of Tennessee, Marsha Plourde of New Hampshire, and Teresa Leite of Tennessee, and leaves many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Canton, Jimmy joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in the Vietnam War until 1969, during which he earned the rank of Sergeant and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for Heroism. Jimmy continued to be active in Veterans affairs throughout his lifetime as a member of the Duxbury American Legion Post 223 and the Disabled American Veterans of Marshfield.
Jimmy was a strong and gentle husband, father, Papa and brother. His family was his whole world and he never failed to let them know that through word and deed. He was a proud man and seldom asked for help from others but would be the first to lend a hand to someone in need. A stalwart provider, he worked for the U.S Postal Service and retired after 30 years of service at their General Mail Facility in Boston.
Jimmy enjoyed time spent outdoors and cruising in his corvette. An avid motorcycle rider, he regularly participated in charity motorcycle runs and was a retired member of REMC, and a member of CVMA Ghost Chapter, NY. He also enjoyed hunting, trips to Maine, and was always up for a spirited political debate!
Jimmy was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and he will be dearly missed.
