Jane Anna Benziger, born January 18, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, at the age of 97.
Jane was the beloved daughter of Xavier Joseph Benziger and Margaret Gabrielle (Cavanagh) Benziger, who instilled in her the values of resilience, kindness, and devotion to family that shaped her long and meaningful life. Growing up in New York, she carried with her a deep appreciation for community and connection — qualities that remained constant through every chapter of her nearly century‑long journey.
A dedicated nurse, Jane spent her career caring for others with compassion, steadiness, and a gentle touch. Her patients and colleagues alike knew her as someone who brought comfort simply by being present. She was also smart and witty, with a quick humor and a sharp mind that made conversations with her memorable and often unexpectedly delightful.
Jane expressed herself through her artistic and creative spirit. She loved drawing and sketching, finding quiet joy in putting pencil to paper. She also found fulfillment in gardening, tending to flowers and plants with the same patience she offered people, and in sewing, where her careful hands created pieces that carried her warmth.
Throughout her life, Jane was known for her quiet strength, her humor, and her ability to make others feel welcomed and understood. She cherished time with family and friends, and her stories, traditions, and kindness will continue to echo through the generations who loved her.
Jane is survived by her children Thomas Gilmore, Jane Anne Neilson, and Nicholas Sosnicki, and is predeceased by her son Franklin Gilmore. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Brian, Nicholas, and Abigail, who will carry forward her legacy of creativity, care, and family devotion. She is also survived by her extended family of stepchildren and their children, whom she cared for deeply.
Services will be held in her honor on May 11 at MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield, Massachusetts, with a wake from noon to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, a cause close to Jane’s heart, online at: https://www.childrenshospital.org/
