Janet L. (Watson) Ares, of Marshfield, passed away on October 27, 2018 at the age of 76. Janet was the beloved wife of the late Richard Ares and dear mother of Andre Ares of Marshfield, and Gregory Ares and his wife Ruth Anne, also of Marshfield. She was sister of Marjorie Dudley of Gilford, CT, and the late Dorothy and James Watson.

Besides family, Janet had two great loves in her life: birdwatching and fishing.

Up until her illness, she was active in the South Shore and Plymouth County Audubon Society and kept meticulous track of every bird she saw, recording the sighting in one of her many bird books. The knowledge and familiarity she gained while birdwatching made her the "go to" person in our family for not only identifying birds by sight, but also by song. Though she did a lot of 'birding' locally, she also spent a lot of time in the Florida Keys, and traveled with her late husband Richard to even more exotic locations like Central and South America.  She treasured the time with her 'birding' friends.

Coming from a long line of fishermen and boat builders in her family, fishing was also a priority for Janet. When not watching for birds, she was going for 'tight lines' and up for any fishing expedition, any location.   She and her late husband were avid fishermen, spent many years in the 70's and 80's, competing for Giant Bluefin Tuna and many other species during the time they were active in the Green Harbor Tuna Club. She also loved to go "clamming" locally and would always be up to going out to dig for clams, regardless of weather.

Janet always held birthdays and holidays close to her heart and never forgot them for her family with her great chocolate cakes and pies. We hold dear the thought that she will keep doing the things she loved in life, but now in heaven.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann's by the Sea Parish, 591 Ocean Street, Marshfield.
