Janice L. McGourty (Surprise), 72, of Marshfield, MA and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Friday, March 15th after a short, courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on March 18th, 1951 in Boston, MA, Janice grew up as one of seven children in Brookline, MA. She is survived by the love of her life, husband of 54 years, Edward J. McGourty of Marshfield, MA and Bonita Springs, FL. Janice left behind her beloved son, Christian S. McGourty Sr. of Marshfield, MA and six of her siblings: Linda Surprise-Craft of Morro Bay, CA, James "Buddy" Surprise of Oceanside, CA, Bill Hunt of Key West, FL, Barbara Nicotera-Hunt of Quincy, MA, Steve Hunt of Charleston, SC, and Thom Surprise of Lewiston, ME. She joins her late brother Kenneth Hunt. Janice had a strong love and pride for her four grandchildren, Christian S. McGourty Jr. and his wife Julie M. McGourty of Marshfield, MA, Katelyn E. Barrera of Lynn, MA, Casey S. McGourty of Boston, MA, and Mary Catherine McGourty of Salem, MA, along with her many nieces and nephews. Janice lived her days full of life and laughter; there was never a moment where her big smile and infectious laugh failed to bring light into any situation. She was a strong, loving, and generous woman and her legacy will persist. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
