Janine M. (Foley) Cobb of Marshfield passed away suddenly on October 20, 2026.
If Janine knew she could have one more phone conversation with her friends, one more dinner at Alba with her family (where the steak window would definitely be open), or a few more snuggles with her kittens, she never would have left.
Never one to opt out of an adventure or miss a party, we can only imagine Janine arriving in Heaven with her bright smile, always-on sense of humor, and genuinely caring spirit—and being made to feel as welcome as she made everyone else feel.
Perpetually curious and a lifelong learner, Janine was a friend to every person and pet she met. She saw the good in everyone, celebrated their wins–big or small– and never gave herself enough credit for being the brilliant, badass businesswoman she was.
Janine didn't just build a commercial real estate career; she broke barriers, shattering more than the glass ceiling, redefining what career success could look like for a woman working in a competitive, male-dominated industry.
She would tell you that she was just a hard worker. But the truth is, she was deeply intelligent with sharp strategic sensibilities and a relentless drive to solve complex problems. Her financial acumen, love for people, and willingness to share her knowledge made her a natural mentor to many.
Professional pursuits aside, Janine was always thrilled when she could ditch her business suit for a bathing suit and enjoy time at 13th beach in Marshfield with her childhood friends, siblings, and family. Her competitive spirit also found a welcome outlet on the golf course and the ski slopes, where she loved spending time outdoors with the people she loved.
But nothing made Janine’s eyes light up more than sharing tales of childhood shenanigans (we’re looking at you, Timmy Foley) and mischief from her college days in North Adams, where she met lifelong friends she still talked to daily—with less chaos these days, but just as many laughs.
The world remembers 2020 as the pandemic year, but for Janine, it was the year she became a grandmother. Nothing brought her more joy than being Ottilie's Nanny. Coincidentally, that was also the year the word 'No' mysteriously vanished from Janine's vocabulary–at least Ottilie has never heard her say it. The two were often found snuggled together under blankets, swapping secrets, giggling and laughing.
When we lose someone who lived and loved as fully as Janine did, it’s impossible not to feel like the world has lost a truly special person.
But we're finding comfort and peace knowing that she spent the last few weeks traveling (another favorite of hers) in Europe with her cousins whom she loved so much. She was happy to be home with her kittens, Finnegan and Lucy, and she got to spend one last night with them. In the morning, she texted her daughter Louise three simple words: 'Life is Good.'
So, if we can all learn one thing from Janine's beautiful life, it’s that spending time with family and friends is what matters most.
Daughter of the late Timothy and Louise M. (Boyle) Foley and former spouse of Michael Cobb, Janine leaves her daughter, Louise Cobb, her boyfriend Sean McDonough, and their daughter Ottilie; and her siblings Christine Bonham and her husband Stan, Timothy Foley and his wife Kelly March, and Michael Foley and his wife Kerri Ann. Predeceased by her brother Shawn Foley and sister Valerie Foley, she was special aunt to Brendan and Conor Foley, and also leaves many nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
