Obituary

Jean M. Christensen of Marshfield passed away on May 20, 2024.

Jean was born in Hartford, CT in 1936 to Edward and Elizabeth Harrison. She and her brother Edward "Pete" Harrison were raised there and attended Ellsworth High School. It was there that she met Jack Christensen, her four-year rival for class president (they each won twice). They were secretly married when they were both just 17 and they had four sons, Jack, Craig, Dale, and Todd and two granddaughters Sydney and Natasha.

In 1970 they moved to Marshfield, MA where they kept a home for the rest of their lives. In the early 70's the family spent a few years in Pittsburgh, PA where Jean earned a bachelor's degree, 4th in her class from "Pitt", Pittsburgh University. Upon their return to Boston, she continued her education where she earned a master's degree in urban planning from MIT.

During a long and successful career Jean served as Chairman of the Marshfield DPW and Head of The South Shore Coalition of The Marshfield Area Planning Council. In addition to her work, she served on Marshfield's Library Board and was a dedicated poll worker during elections.

A two-time cancer survivor, Jean never slowed down. She was an active member of The Unitarian Church of Norwell and a voracious reader of non-fiction. Well into her retirement she continued to volunteer at The Ventress Memorial Library where she was honored with the creation of "Jean's Book Nook". Most importantly, she enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and family and went out of her way to stay updated on their lives. They will all tell you she never forgot a birthday which she always noted with a hand-written card.
