Obituary

Jean (Johnson) Kennedy, 89, daughter of the late Marie (Elliott) Johnson and Harry E. Johnson, wife of the late Ivan B. Kennedy, passed away November 4th, 2015. Jean was born in Portland, Maine in 1926, grew up in Wollaston, MA and graduated from North Quincy High School, Class of 1944. She attended Boston Bouvé where she received a teaching certificate in Physical Education; in 1970 she graduated from Bridgewater State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She lived in Marshfield for over 60 years. Jean is survived by her four children and their spouses; Lisa J. Kennedy and Raffi Kassabian of Rowley, MA, Elliott J. Kennedy and Donna (Marburger) Kennedy of Houston, TX, Laine (Kennedy) Hansell and Paul W. Hansell of Marshfield and Adria M. Kennedy and Richard Kilpatrick, and her grandchildren; Owen Kennedy and Lea Kilpatrick all of Brewster, MA.

Jean had a life-time involvement with the Masonic Organizations of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and the Order of Eastern Star, Rexhame Chapter, where she served as Worthy Advisor and Worthy Matron respectively. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church in Marshfield as well.

She was also an active volunteer in the community by driving for The Council on Aging, reading for the blind at the Talking Information Center and staffing the Clift Rogers Library Consignment Shop.

For years Jean was involved with Camp Fire Girls of Eastern MA as both a group leader and summer staff at several day and residential camps serving as a Water Safety Director and/or Program Director.

She was a Physical Education teacher at Hull High School for one year and at Silver Lake Regional High School for 19 years.

Above all, Jean was an avid world traveler (visiting 98 countries), she was a long-time downhill and cross country skier and was the creator of the most excellent hotdog soup.

She had a passion for attending movies and the theater, was always up for a good sight-seeing trip and loved crafts and games of all kinds.

As she said, "I had a good run".

Visiting hours at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield, Sunday, November 15th, from 1-5pm.

Please join Jean's family at Polcari's Bridgwaye Inn, 1265 Ferry St., Marshfield, MA, Monday, November 16th, 12pm to celebrate her life.
