Jean Marie (Panico) Souza, 84, of Middleboro, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born in Chelsea, MA on April 16, 1939 to Joseph and Florence (Dudley) Panico.
Jean married her loving husband, Chester Souza, in 1968 and decided to settle down in Marshfield where they raised their three children. Jean is survived by her children Karen (Martin) and Robert Lansing of Forestdale, Laurie (Martin) and Stanley Zygmunt of Mansfield, and Joseph and Karen (Hayward) Souza of Plymouth. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; Katelyn (Lansing) White, Amanda Lansing, Kendra Lansing, Meghan Lansing, Carly Lansing, Sean Lansing, Sarah (Zygmunt) Sweatt, Michelle (Zygmunt) Economou, Scott Zygmunt, Kristina Souza, Thomas Souza, Kyle Souza and Alyssa Souza, four great-grandsons; Vaughn Lahr Jr., Xander Sweatt, Tatum Sweatt and Zachary White; and brother Russell Panico. Jean also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, her husband Chet, her sister Donna (Panico) Barsky and brothers Richard (Dicky) Panico and William (Billy) Panico.
Jean loved the simple things in life like taking long rides in the car, cooking Sunday dinner for her family, taking care of her flower beds, crocheting, and watching her grandchildren play. Her family was her greatest joy. She loved spending time with them, especially the holidays when the whole family was under one roof. As her Alzheimer's progressed, Jean's family extended to include the nurses and support staff at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Nursing Home in Middleboro where she lived for ten years before her passing. Jean leaves behind wonderful memories that her entire family will cherish always.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ann's by the Sea, 587 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a burial at Couch Cemetery, Union Street in Marshfield.
