Jeffrey Townes of Marshfield, MA, passed away suddenly on September 26, 2025, at the age of 72.
Beloved husband of Laura Donaldson Townes. Loving father of Douglas and his wife Gabrielle (Amico) Townes and Caroline Townes. Devoted son of the late Mary (Cheever) and Eben Townes. Cherished brother of Deirdre Townes of Waltham, Eben Townes Jr. and his wife Christina, Martha Clark and her husband Dow of Sandwich, and Mary Foniri and her husband Bill of Holliston.
Jeffrey grew up in Humarock, Massachusetts, and graduated from Scituate High School in 1971. After graduation, he worked as a steward on yachts in Palm Beach and later did boat repair work for several years. He traveled extensively through Europe before returning home to Massachusetts, where he spent over 25 years bartending just outside the Boston Garden — a job that suited his outgoing nature and gift for making friends everywhere he went.
Jeff had a lifelong passion for boating. He lovingly restored and maintained a 1962 White boat, keeping its original varnished glory intact to this day. White wooden boats held special meaning for Jeff — they were the same brand sold and serviced by his father at Humarock Marina during the 1950s and '60s. His love for boats, family, and tradition ran deep, and he encouraged everyone — especially kids — to follow their passions just as he had.
A Celebration of Life will be held at his home, 1134 South River Street, Marshfield, MA, on Friday at 1:00 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeff's memory can be made to the Marshfield Food Pantry, by mail to p.o. Box 1097, Marshfield, MA 02050 or online at: https://www.marshfieldfoodpantry.org/
