Obituary

Jessie Ann Pierce, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 29, 2025, at the age of 80.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Navy veteran Walter X. Pierce, and their six children: Walter X. Pierce III and his wife Danielle, Chris Pierce and his wife Amy, Jessica Letendre and her husband Caine, Deborah Brockney and her husband Brian, Ryan Pierce and his wife Annemarie, and her youngest daughter, Mary Pierce. She was a proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren: Brenna Sullivan and her husband Ben, Emma Pierce, Jacob Pierce, Sophie Letendre, Colin Letendre, Evangeline Letendre, Jack Brockney, Lila Brockney, Estelle Brockney, and John and Jared McFarland.

Born on May 5, 1945, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, Jessie was the youngest child of Richard and Mary Coakley. Her father, a union foreman at the Fore River Shipyard, helped build battleships such as the USS Massachusetts during World War II and witnessed the Boston Molasses Flood as a child. Jessie was raised in the Catholic faith and remained deeply devoted throughout her life. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Coakley of Weymouth and Richard Coakley of Brockton.

As a teen in the late 1950s, Jessie loved Elvis Presley and the early Beatles. As a young girl, she once aspired to be a nun—a dream that shifted after meeting Walter, the man she would marry in 1969.

Jessie spent her childhood summers in Marshfield, staying in beach houses near Burke's Beach. Her love of the ocean stayed with her, and in 1977 she and Walter moved their growing family to Marshfield's Blackmount neighborhood, where they built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. Jessie found peace living near the ocean and especially loved long walks along the beach at sunset.

A dedicated mother in every sense, Jessie was one of the original "soccer moms," long before the term existed. In the early days of the Marshfield youth soccer league, before uniforms were issued, she hand-dyed T-shirts purple for her child's team. She was always there on the sidelines—whether it was soccer, dance, cross country, or track—where her daughter and grandson have left standing school records at two South Shore schools.

Jessie will be remembered for her deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. Her warmth and presence live on in every life she touched.
