Joan Huntington, 76, of Scituate, MA passed away peacefully on June 27 th after a 5-year battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Robert Huntington; loving mother of Aimee Huntington (Matthew) of Scituate, Maura De Felice (Andrew) of Hingham, Mark Huntington (Carolyn) of Hanson, and Craig Huntington (Kara) of Marshfield; cherished grandmother of Madison, Kaden, Cole, and Ailis.
The youngest and only girl in a family of four, Joan was born in Weymouth, MA in 1945. She graduated from Weymouth High School where she met and later married, Bob, her husband of 54 years.
Joan was absolutely the anchor of her family. She and Bob created a home that remained a cosmic center for their four children even after they had all grown and started families of their own. She was an amazing mother. She always supported her kids even if she didn't necessarily agree with their decisions. She would definitely let them know that she didn't agree, but she never failed to stand by them. She loved her family fiercely, and even though she wasn't always vocal with her feelings, her actions spoke volumes.
Joan was incredibly hard working. She put everything into whatever she was doing whether it was raising her children, taking care of her home, or running her own business. She had high standards for herself as well as for everyone around her.
Beyond working and taking care of her family, she was an avid gardener and spent most of her weekends tending to the many plants and flowers in her yard. She loved looking after her home. She took time and care to paint and design each room to her satisfaction--- and often re-painting and redesigning that room. The joke of the family was don't stand still too long, or you might get painted. Overall, she was incredibly creative, and had a talent for many different artistic pursuits including sewing and knitting. Of course, let's not forget that she was a tremendous baker. Her cookies were legendary.
She was strong-willed and determined, a fighter right until the end. She has left a tremendous void in this world and in the lives of all those who knew her. She will be missed beyond measure.
