Joan M. (Tracy) O'Toole of Hingham passed away on September 23, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Franklin J. O'Toole; loving mother of Dr. Debra A. McLachlan and her husband Donald of West Newbury, Kathleen O. Collins and her husband Hugh of Hingham, Dr. Thomas J. O'Toole and his wife Jennifer of Wenham, and John F. O'Toole and his wife Lisa of Chicago, IL; cherished Nana of Brian Collins and his wife Carolyn of Hingham, Taylor Armstrong and her husband George of Charlestown, Austin, Ashley, Ashton "A.J." O'Toole of Chicago, and Clare and Catherine O'Toole of Wenham, and of great-granddaughters Anna, Cecilia, and Lily; dear sister of the late Richard Tracy and Geraldine Marino.

Joan was born in Boston and graduated from Dorchester High School.  She met her husband Frank and married at the age of 21.  They started a family in Dorchester before moving to Marshfield in 1968 and then to Hingham in 1995.

Joan dedicated her life to her family. She loved spending time with her seven grandchildren, and her three great grandchildren.  Throughout her life, she was active in developing her talents and interests in ceramics, sewing, needlepoint, painting, and cooking.  She also played tennis, traveled, and later in life was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her weekly get-togethers with her bridge friends at Hingham Woods.

Joan worked for many years as a Plymouth County Board of Realtors computer administrator responsible for the multiple listing service before beginning an active retirement in the move to Hingham.  In Hingham, Joan spent many years working part-time at the Hingham Recreation Department, which she loved. She was known as "Joan from the rec" around town.

Everyone who knew Joan immediately felt they were in the presence of an old friend whom they had known for years.  It is an amazing quality that she possessed, and she will be greatly missed by all.

At the request of the family, the wake and funeral services will be private.
