Obituary

Joanne Fleming (Manning) 69, passed away peacefully after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Throughout the whole time she would tell everyone, "She was a Bitch from Dorchester who could fight", and Lord knows she fought as hard as she could. Joanne was born in Boston to James and Mary Manning and was the youngest of three children. Joanne spent most of her childhood with her siblings Kathy and Jim. Hanging with all her many cousins, she would often tell stories of those summers.  In 1971, while hanging in the Village, Joanne met her husband, Tom. She would joke he dated her because she had a car, he would always reply, you did, but you had great eyes too. Joanne would tell stories of their first year and Friday nights with pizzas spent in Rockland with the McKenna's. Friday night pizza is a tradition that still lives on.

Joanne started working for Boston Gas, now known as National Grid, in 1972 and Joanne very proud of her 51 years of service and the wonderful friends she made along the way. Whether it be Boston, West Roxbury, Waltham or Wilmington, Joanne enjoyed working with the many friends she gained at the gas company.

Joanne is the beloved wife of Tom Fleming, who she was married to for 48 years. Additionally, Joanne leaves behind her children Katie and her husband Tom Cashman, their children Nora and Declan, her son TJ and his wife Allyssa Fleming, her son Chris and his wife Brittni Fleming and their daughter Avery, her son Michael Fleming, and daughter Kassidy Fleming and her boyfriend Justin Brosnan. Joanne also leaves behind her niece Colleen, her husband Thor Agustsson and her children Damien and Thor, as well as many loved family and friends.  We find comfort knowing that Mum is reunited with our sister Kasey Marie, who passed away so long ago and know it is her turn to have her Mum back.

Though Joanne loved her children dearly, it was her role as "Sally" she most cherished. Her grandchildren Nora, Declan and Avery made her life complete. Whether it be trips to Target, where Nora would pretend to be mannequin and Declan would choose a little souvenir, a little trip to Sweet Frogs for yogurt or dancing in the kitchen, Sally was the best and did everything she could to make the most of her time with her grandkids. Sally had a unique tendency to never say no and Nora, Declan and even Avery knew that. Often, Nora and Declan would say "Well Sally said" followed by whatever they wanted. For Avery when she saw her Sally her eyes lit up and knew how to make Sally's Day.

Joanne loved spending time with her family, especially the excitement of planning family trips to Disney where everyone could get together from their busy schedules and make great memories. The excitement of waking up early 60 days before to make dinner reservations and finalize plans was one of her favorite things. Joanne loved her children and would do anything to make the best out of every moment.  Joanne loved to travel to new places, whether for weddings, birthdays, and little getaways. She enjoyed her most recent trip with the family to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. Joanne loved having all her children and their friends, who she considered extended family over to hangout by the pool with a good BBQ and bevies. Joanne loved being a "Sally" to all our friends' children and often had a little parting gift for each of them when they left. Joanne never forgot a birthday or special event of all her "kids". Joanne also loved going around Marshfield with Tom to their local restaurants and talking with those "regular" friends they met along the way.

Joanne will always be remembered for her genuine desire to help who ever she could, whether it be buying a beer at the bar for someone, throwing an extra couple bucks to someone who needed it, inviting friends and family on trips or always having a little something for you when you came in her house. We'll always imagine hearing her say "Whatever" one more time. We couldn't have asked for a better wife, Mum, Sally, and friend, and will miss her every day. Joanne's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
