Joanne Morel, 78, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, educator and friend, Joanne lived with warmth, generosity and a deep devotion to family, finding her greatest joy in raising her 3 children.

Born in Boston on August 20, 1947, Joanne was the daughter of Peter and Antonina DiPaolo and grew up in Mattapan. A lifelong educator, she spent 37 years in the Boston Public Schools, where she taught French, Spanish, mathematics and English as a Second Language. Over nearly four decades in the classroom, Joanne shared her knowledge, patience and commitment with generations of students.

Family was at the center of Joanne’s life. She was the loving mother of Jonathan DiPaolo and his wife, Heather, of Pocasset; Jennifer and her husband, Carl, of Scituate; and Gregory and his wife, Teryn, of Ridgefield, Connecticut. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Isabella, Mia, Nicolai, Sophie, Antonina, Jackson and Josephine.

Joanne loved the beach and especially enjoyed bringing family and friends together. She was a wonderful host who believed there was no such thing as making too much food. Whether it was a holiday, party, or family celebration, her table was always full, her guests never left hungry, and the care she put into cooking was one of the many ways she showed her love.

After retiring from teaching and while living in Plymouth, Joanne continued to give her time to others, volunteering at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. She also worked at Coldwater Creek in Plymouth, where she enjoyed helping women find just the right addition to their wardrobes.

In her later years, Joanne made Cape Cod her home, living in both Bourne and Mashpee. It was a fitting place for someone who had always found happiness near the ocean and treasured time spent with family and friends.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Joanne is survived by her brother Peter and his wife, Patty; her sister Lisa and her husband, Charlie; her sister-in-law Cheryl; her loving niece Melissa; and her nephews Eric, Devon and Peter. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Antonina DiPaolo, and her brother, Paul DiPaolo.

Joanne will be remembered as a proud mother of her 3 children and the sacrifices she made to ensure their happiness and success. Also for her devotion to family, her decades of service as an educator, her generosity and hospitality, and the warmth she brought to the lives of those around her. Her legacy lives on in the generations of students she taught, the family she cherished and the many people who were fortunate enough to gather around her table.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by interment in the Couch Cemetery.
